| Rain, rain go away |
So far June is going down as our 11th wettest on record. We have actually had much more rain than Rochester down here in the southerntier. And, cool as well. There have only been two days reported at Rochester Airport above 80 degrees. The average is 13! I told Denise we might as well rent a bulldozer and fill in the pool!
I hope summer rears it's lovely head in the month of July. I wish you have a safe and happy Independance Day weekend! (hopefully dry as well).

| Bear with me |
| On our flight last week that we encountered the bear, we had a writer aboard, Ian Biggs from the Villager Newspaper in Ellicottville, NY. He wrote a very nice article and it can be viewed online at www.thevillagerny.com |

| Baskets & Nylon & Bears, Oh My! |
What a great flight last night. We had a young passenger Shawn Benedict propose propose to his girlfriend Barb and she said "Yes!". Another passenger got it on film for them.
We landed in a tall grassy field. A little fawn was laying down next to where we landed and got up and scampered away. After we packed up and headed home in the dark, the neatest thing happened. Going down the road in my pickup and trailer, a very large black bear was right in the middle of the road. I slowed down and it trotted along side the truck for about 40 yards. My trailer has like a porch light on the right side of it and I left it on by mistake. This lit the bear up very nicely for us to see. The funny part was that I had forgotten that I had two crew people in the back of the open air pickup. One was hollering "go faster Sean, faster!!!". He had this big bear right along side of him. Smoky finally took a turn up a driveway and we laughed all the way back to the park. A really fun night. |

| Love is in the air! |
We had a very nice balloon flight on Sunday night. A great young couple from Rochester got engaged in the air. Other passengers were happy to film the proposal for them. She was totally surprised and of course, started crying.
Here in my own back yard, there are plenty of lovebirds. I finally got a pair of bluebirds to nest in one of my boxes. They are beautiful! They had to first fight off some aggressive tree swallows who wanted the birdhouse but they were successful. There are countless nests of many species around the house. I have a flock of rose breasted gosbeaks (my favorites) that always stay the summer. They arrive around May 10 and leave for Central America about August 1st. They showed up two weeks early this year. We had a heat wave that brought in many migraters on the warm south winds that we had.
I have a pair of wood ducks in a hollowed out maple at the edge of my yard. I also have been seeing a lot of other ducks flying around a lot. I couldn't figure out why. There is a small creek that runs through our woods but I never had many ducks take interest in it so, I took a hike. Low and behold, at the back of my woods is a beautiful beaver pond that wasn't there last fall. They have consructed a study dam on the little creek and a big lodge for themselves. I hope to go out at sunset some evenings and maybe photograph the beavers going to work. Life is good! |
